Shelter from the Storm
"They fled to monasteries, churches, forests—anywhere the military wasn't. Now they need help to survive what comes next."
The displacement in Karenni State is one of the worst humanitarian crises you've probably never heard of. Massive numbers of civilians have fled their homes and taken temporary refuge wherever they can find it—monasteries, churches, forests, border areas. They face a humanitarian crisis far larger than existing interventions can address.
Food is running out. Water is scarce. Sanitation is inadequate. Without medical services and supplies, malnutrition spreads, infectious diseases take hold, and trauma-related mental health issues multiply. Children are deprived of education. Women and children are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Entire communities are fighting for survival.
Local organizations, religious institutions, and civil society groups are providing what they can—but it's not enough. The gaps in shelter, food, healthcare, and protection remain enormous. This project addresses the most urgent needs while building community capacity to protect the most vulnerable.
